What it answers

  1. What should a quarterly board update cover, and in what order?
  2. How do I show burn and runway so nobody has to do the maths in the meeting?
  3. Where do the asks go, so they actually get answered?
  4. How do I show we're behind plan without three slides of excuses?
  5. What goes in the appendix so the main slides stay short?

Putting your numbers in

The numbers come from your accounts or your model; the deck holds them.

  1. 1

Duplicate the file and read slide 15 once.

  2. 2

On each chart, right-click > Edit Data and paste the quarter's figures. On the cash chart the forecast is a separate series: replace its values too, then retype the runway figures beside it.

  3. 3

Retype the tables: KPIs, financials, pipeline, roadmap, roles, risks.

  4. 4

Write the summary (slide 3) and the decisions (slide 12) last, once you know what the quarter was.

  5. 5

Delete slide 15 and any slide that doesn't apply to you, the pipeline for one.

Probably not for you if

  • You're raising money and need a pitch deck. This is for reporting to people who already invested or sit on your board.
  • You need a financial model. The deck shows numbers; it doesn't produce them. Look at the 3-Statement or SaaS model.

Questions people ask about this one

Does it calculate runway?

No. Slide 7 has a cash chart with the actual and forecast cash, and the runway figures next to it are typed in. Replace the chart values, then retype the runway numbers. The burn figure itself comes from your accounts.

Can I use it every month instead of every quarter?

Yes. Change "quarter" to "month" in the headings and retype the numbers.

Is it right for a non-startup board?

Mostly. Delete the pipeline and roadmap slides and keep the rest.

What's the sample company?

Larkspur Software, a made-up company, with figures in thousands of euros for Q3 2026. Every slide says the content is a sample; replace the footer with your own.
